Σκοπός του άρθρου αυτού είναι η ανάδειξη της αποξενωμένης σχέσης των κατοίκων των μεγάλων, αλλοτριωμένων αστικών κέντρων από τη φύση και η αποτύπωση των επιπτώσεων της αποξένωσης αυτής για τις νέες γενιές. Το άρθρο βασίζεται στο έργο ΘΕΡΦΥΣ - «Θεραπεύοντας την αποξένωση του σύγχρονου ανθρώπου από τη φύση. Διαμόρφωση παιδαγωγικής μεθοδολογίας για την ενδυνάμωση της σχέσης με το δασικό και αγροτικό περιβάλλον», το οποίο υλοποιείται στο Τμήμα Ελαίας και Οπωροκηπευτικών του Ινστιτούτου Ελιάς, Υποτροπικών Φυτών και Αμπέλου (Ι.ΕΛ.Υ.Α.) του ΕΛΓΟ-ΔΗΜΗΤΡΑ και συγχρηματοδοτείται από εθνικούς και κοινοτικούς πόρους. Το έργο ΘΕΡΦΥΣ αποσκοπεί στην ανάδειξη και θεραπεία της διαρρηγμένης σχέσης ανθρώπου – φύσης στο πλαίσιο της πόλης μέσα από την επιμόρφωση εκπαιδευτικών και ειδικών επιστημόνων, την ανάδειξη καλών πρακτικών, την υλοποίηση δράσεων περιβαλλοντικής εκπαίδευσης και εν τέλει τη διαμόρφωση μιας ολοκληρωμένης παιδαγωγικής μεθοδολογίας για τη σύσφιξη της σχέσης των νέων γενιών με το αγροτικό και δασικό περιβάλλον στα όρια της πόλης. Στο άρθρο αναπτύσσεται το διεπιστημονικό πλαίσιο των αρχών και των μεθόδων πάνω στο οποίο θα διαμορφωθεί η παιδαγωγική μεθοδολογία του έργου ΘΕΡΦΥΣ, περιγράφονται οι βασικοί άξονες της μεθοδολογίας του έργου, και ανακοινώνονται τα πρώτα αποτελέσματά του.
