Στην εργασία αυτή μελετήθηκε αν η εμφάνιση ενσυναισθητικών αντιδράσεων στα παιδιά προσχολικής ηλικίας απέναντι στα ζώα και τα συναισθήματα συμπάθειας και συμπόνιας που συνοδεύουν τις ενσυναισθητικές αντιδράσεις σχετίζονται με τα δημοφιλή και μη δημοφιλή ζώα. Συμμετείχαν 20 παιδιά προσχολικής ηλικίας τα οποία φοιτούσαν σε ένα νηπιαγωγείο στο Ν. Δράμας και η ερευνητική τεχνική ήταν αυτή της ατομικής συνέντευξης με χρήση βοηθητικού υλικού. Στα ευρήματα καταγράφεται ότι τα παιδιά προσχολικής ηλικίας εμφανίζουν ενσυναισθητικές αντιδράσεις που απευθύνονται στα ζώα και ότι οι ενσυναισθητικές αυτές αντιδράσεις συνοδεύονται από συναισθήματα συμπάθειας και συμπόνιας που οδηγούν σε ανάληψη δράσης. Επίσης επιβεβαιώνεται η αρχική υπόθεση για τη σχέση αυτών των αντιδράσεων με τη δημοφιλία των ζώων. Τα κριτήρια αιτιολόγησης των παιδιών για μη ανάληψη δράσης σχετίζονται με την επικινδυνότητα, την ενοχλητική συμπεριφορά, αξιολογικές κρίσεις, τη μορφολογία και την αυτάρκεια του ζώου. Συμπεραίνεται ότι με κατάλληλες παιδαγωγικές τεχνικές μπορούμε να προσανατολίσουμε τα παιδιά ώστε να αποκτήσουν ενδιαφέρον για το σύνολο των μορφών ζωής του πλανήτη.
