Abstract:
The current century signalled the transformation from Knowledge Society to the InnovationSociety. The trend is the support of Knowledge Management (KM) by the Management Information Systems (MIS). However the main existing use of KM concerns the distribution in organizations of those that are known already e.g. best practices. The future of an organization will depend on the way it exploits its knowledge on its processes for increasing innovation. Knowledge Management Systems are essential and prerequisites for the growth of innovation in an organization. However Information Systems should advance a step further and combine Knowledge Management with Innovation Management. Modern MIS should support the creation, capture, diffusion, evaluation and commercialisation of new ideas, the transfer of ideas from one field of application to another, as well as among countries and different cultures, the collaborative work for the creation of innovation, the management of intellectual property rights as well as the evaluation of the innovation process in an organization.
