Abstract:
A lot of papers in museums and libraries suffer from unsuitable environmental conditionsthat can lead to brittleness and fragility. This study aims to evaluate the efficiencyof cellulose acetate and chitosan at different concentrations for the preservationof historical papers. The untreated and treated samples were submitted to different acceleratedageing cycles. Analytical techniques used for the evaluation process were tensilestrength and elongation measurement, UV-spectrophotometer, XRD, and SEM. Theresults revealed that heat-moist-light ageing cycle affected the properties studies morethan other ageing cycles. The lower concentrations gave an improvement better than thehigher concentrations of cellulose acetate and chitosan.
