The Pottery of a Middle Byzantine Harbour Town in Macedonia : the Case of Kitros

Abstract:
The pottery recovered from the castle of Kitros comprises imported vases and vases made locally, as corroborated by the excavation of successive kilns in the area of the Byzantine harbour. Both the twelfth-century imported and the local vases point to the existence of a common thematic repertoire and decoration, which was developed in the large urban centres of the Empire and spread from there to the burgs and harbours of the provinces.
