Abstract:
Examined are examples of twelfth-century wall-paintings identified to date in the region of Eastern Macedonia: in a church excavated in the Strymon estuary near Amphipolis, in the church of St Nicholas at Elaion Serres, and an isolated foliate cross in a hagiasma in the Old Metropolis of Serres. Although fragmentary in character, this painting follows diverse currents of mainly the Late Komnenian phase of the twelfth century, creating and expressing an independent artistic proposal.
