Abstract:
An icon of superb art, with the rare subject of St Symeon Theodochos standing upright with Christ in his arms, was located in the church of the Taxiarchs at Artemonas on the island of Siphnos. Its iconographic type differs from that on the known icon by Michael Damaskenos in Herakleion and is closer to the type of the Virgin Glykophilousa, as in the icon in the Gonia monastery. The work is dated to the mid-fifteenth century and is attributed to the milieu of the painter Angelos (Akotantos).
