Abstract:
Based on a selective description of Alexander’s enviromental and cultural circumstances, the author explains the extraordinary personality of the king of Macedonia. He, then, examines the reasons that disrupted the relationship between Philip and Alexander, affected the atmosphere of the royal family and created a sense of insecurity for Alexander, who, subsequently, had to retreat from Macedonian affairs. Philip’s unexpected death elevated Alexander to the throne of Macedonia, allowing him to continue and carry through his father’s plans. The author, after a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding Philip’s death, excludes any possibility of Alexander’s complicity in his father’s assassination.
