Abstract:
A Paper submitted to the Preparatory Commission of theLutheran/Orthodox Dialogue in its meeting from 5-10 July 1994 in Venice. The paper deals with 1. The Formulations of dogma and the Mystery of God, 2. Soteriology, 3. The Lord of Glory, the Doctor of our souls and bodies, 4. Exclusions, i.e. positions which have no place in the Soteriological Pressupositions of the Seven Ecumenical Councils, and 5. The Reception of theCouncils. The author maintains that all Seven Ecumenical Councils dealt with the Incarnation of Yahweh, the Lord of Glory of the Old Testament, and His method of cure of the human personality. Rejection of this basic doctrine of the Church implies the essential rejection of the Councils which had this doctrine as their basic pressuposition and point of departure.
