From an inscription found on the island of los, Cyclades, and now at the Syra Archaeological Museum, it is considered almost certain that there was there a month called Homereon probably in honour of Homer or somebody else called Homeridis, rhapsodist, who lived and died on the island. Literary evidence from Lucian referring to Demosthenes' death that happened in the month of Pyanephsion helps us to new the month Homereon as equivalent to October. The context of the inscription is the offered sacrifices during the Thesmophoria festival been analogous to the present memorial rites. Inscription erected as the memorial offering Day to the great Poet to secure the fertility of the field.
