In order to practise the speaking skill, the students of the advanced class of the School of Modern Greek Language in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki participated, during the academic year 2002-03, in the two activities of the lesson presented in this paper. The lesson uses a combined language teaching methodology, focusing on the communicative language teaching framework. It is student-centered and includes challenging material, student interaction, dramatisation, discussion of contemporary problems (e.g. equality of the sexes), feedback and remedial teaching, taking into serious consideration the School’s intercultural classes. Also, a videotape recorded from a Greek television programme, a cassette recorder to tape the students’ dialogues and an overhead projector have been used. The paper finishes with the conclusions of this experience.
