Abstract:
In a quest for daily ‘liveness’ as immediacy, Greek television news broadcasts routinely incorporate large chunks of ‘live’ transmissions, consisting of on-the-scene reporters interviewing eyewitnesses to emerging news, which are offered to the audience as slices of real life ‘as it happens/has happened’. Participants to such occasions proffer their witnessed accounts in a number of different shapes, which range from expert opinion to life-stories and from non-narrative to narrative modes, employing strategies which are drawn from the pool of ordinary everyday talk, but also, often, borrowing from television discourse.
