Abstract:
Prediction of corporate failure is crucial to shareholders, banks, creditors etc. so it is an area which attracts academic interest. The present study concludes that bankruptcy of Greek manufacting companies can be predicted even two years before it occurs. The study, utilises data of 40 companies for the period 1981-83, applying advanced statistical methodologies, such as logit/profit. The parameters of the adopted models were estimated from a sub - sample of 20 companies and tested in the remaining sub-sample. The success of the suggested methods of prediction was 100% one year before bankruptcy.
