The aim of this paper is to contribute to the investigation of the expression of identity in the framework of conversational narratives. My analysis is based on a corpus of more than 60 narratives occurring in a conversation of two 18-year-olds with two fieldworkers. Using Blum-Kulka's (1993) proposal, Ι argue that the in-group facet of adolescents' identity is realized in the joint activity of 'telling', whereas the out-group facet of their identity is realized in the (implicit or explicit) negative evaluation that they express towards the behavior of the main characters (such as relatives, teachers, priests, policemen) taking part in their 'tales'.
