The dim of this paper is to investigate mediopassive past participle formation withrespect to types of events The basic insight is that telic verbs are related to m/pparticiples A NP argument of a telic verb undergoes a definite change of state which iscaptured, in the grammatical level, by a form, ι e the m/p participle, denoting a resultstate subsequent to the accomplishment ol an event Further questions such as thematicrole structure come up in this connection Thematic roles play an important part inclassifying event types They may be viewed, in this particular case, as a set of verbalentailments within a cluster-concept called "proto patient ' Distinctions establishedwith respect to thematic roles correspond to categorisations based on lexical aspect
