This paper contains some general observations, from a syntactico-semantic point of view, on the case system of Modern Greek, i.e. on the functions of cases, according to a) their independence (e.g. nominative for vocative etc), b) their dependence (divided into homoptotic and heteroptotic), c) order of elements, d) difference and equivalence (e.g. θαλασσινά πουλιά - πουλιά της θάλασσας - θαλασσοπούλια etc, ένα ποτήρι νερό - ένα ποτήρι (του) νερού etc) e) definiteness-indefiniteness, f) classifiers, quantifiers (as adjuncts) etc, g) cases depending on prepositions, adverbs etc.
