Abstract:
I briefly define "Theory of Mind" and give a brief review of recent 25-year historyof the field. I then focus on the longstanding competence-performance issue and defend theview that the observed changes in understanding the mind during childhood relate to conceptualchange and reflect more than just improvement in performance. I point out thebenefit of such a view for the empirical contributions to this special issue on Theory of Mind.
