Abstract:
In this paper, the author discusses the main issues and key points related to implementing an inclusive philosophy within current educational systems. In the first part of the paper the key principles of the inclusive education movement and the main goals regarding school system reform are presented and analyzed. In addition, data related to positive effects are discussed as well as all the critical arguments regarding the implementation of inclusive practices within school contexts. In the second part of the paper, the author discusses the epistemological and theoretical transformation and shift of paradigm that inclusive approach implies for the disability and childhood disorders research. Specifically, the author discusses the implications of the implementation of inclusive practices in the traditional special education area as well as the new non-medical approaches and psychosocial programs that are established in the school context as means to support all students and especially students at risk to be excluded from ordinary school.
