In this paper we examine the gender distribution in the academic staff of Greek University Departments of Primary Education and of Preschool Education. We used data from 18 University Departments (9 Departments of Primary Education, 9 Departments of Preschool Education) and we conclude to three major findings: A). Males and females participate almost equally in the academic staff of Departments of Primary and Preschool Education. B). Females academics take possessions mostly in the lower grades of academic staff (assistant professors and lecturers). C). Females academics compose the majority of the academic staff in Departments of Preschool Education, but even in this case males academics compose the majority in the highest grade of academic staff (full professors). We relate these findings with former research in Greece and other countries and we outline proposals for future research.
