Historical evidence grounded on narrative sources : a slippery passage

Considering the scarcity of archival sources concerning the political deliberations of the State of Venice on the facts of the annexation of Corfu (1386), the author indicates that a considerable part of the relevant documentation is almost exclusively based on Venetian narrative sources, which try to justify, from the moral as well as the political point of view, the Venetian intervention on the island. That “official” standpoint has almost thoroughly been adopted by posterior historiography on the issue, rendering conclusions founded on it rather disputable.
