This article gives a phenomenological analysis of teaching. Teaching has no common definition and its meaning is related to different teaching theories. In an attempt to understand teaching as a concept, the article discusses the following five basic questions: 1. To what might teaching be likened? 2. How is teaching different from related activities? 3. What is the relationship between teaching and learning? 4. What distinguishes teaching from non - teaching? 5. What are the criteria for effective teaching?
