During the last years there's has been a significant development in the area of education for culturally and linguistically diverse students which has led up to the appointment of new demands concerning the in-service training of educators. In this article the advantages and the perspectives from the implementation of a new - at least as far as the greek educational reality is concerned - form of in-service training, the school-based in-service training, are presented. Based on research results (on a panhellenic scale) a critical evaluation of the applied in-service training programs takes place as well as the opinions and preferences of educators are recorded. According to the educators' opinions, it comes to light that the school unit constitutes the most appropriate ground for in-service training, where the daily problems and the particularities of a multicultural class can be effectively dealt with as well as theory and practice can be efficiently combined.
