The current study investigates the educational alternatives of children with hearing impairment within the frames of Cyprus Primary Education. As such, are being consider the special school, the mainstream school and the special education unit for the deaf. The conceptual framework of the study is based on the ecological model, which explores the relationship between hearing impairment and the child's environment, while ethnographical methods were applied. The environmental factors used to structure the field research, were: (a) the type of communication (sign language, vocal) the children use, (b) the teaching approach (vocal, total communication, sign language, bilingual education) and (c) the kind of school used (special, general, unit). The results indicate that disorientation prevails in each and every kind of educational option for this special group of children.
