Abstract:
This paper addresses the issues relating to user profiles in web-based learning systems and the way we can mine them in order to improve the learning experience by integrating personalization techniques. These techniques use the information extracted from the profiles to determine the educational material and the way it will be presented to its recipients, in terms of structure and form. The resulting personalized pages (that satisfy the needs and preferences of each individual user or group of users) are dictated by a set of adaptations, which in turn derive from the application of web mining techniques to the profile data, as well as the recorded user behavior.
