The author presents a first assessment of testimonies garnered in the process of cataloging the musical manuscripts preserved in the Library of the St. Catherine Monastery in Mount Sinai, where he spent a month with his collaborator Flora Kritikou. These manuscripts provide us with new information about the composers of Byzantine ecclesiastic music already familiar to us, but also with new names hitherto unknown. Moreover, they are an invaluable source of information about musical styles and systems of notation used by Byzantine masters of music.
