Based on the reports of the Literary Society of Istanbul about the village of Demirdas, in the region of Bursa, the author examines and confirms the unambiguously Greek character of education offered there during the decade 1870-1880. This is proved by the content of educational programs of the community, composed exclusively by Greek speakers, the prizes awarded to the most brilliant students and the correspondence of the local leaders with the religious and political authorities in Istanbul pertaining to educational matters.
