The notion of the state in Hegel
Author:
Abstract:
Friedrich Hegel, the founder of absolute idealism and inventor of the so- called “speculative Dialectic”, developed a theory about the State which is consistent with his views about the spirit as the only authentic reality revealing itself through the material world. In Hegel, the creation and evolution of the State is inextricably linked to the Philosophy of History: it represents the totality of the laws and traditions developed as the product of the manifestation of universal spirit in the course of human history. Thus, the three types of State recognized by Hegel, viz. despotic, democratic and monarchic, correspond to the system “thesis-antithesis-synthesis” which characterizes Hegelian dialectic.
