Abstract:
Based on the accounts of ancient sources, such as Arrianos, Plutrach and Diodorus of Sicily, and on the investigations of modern scholars, the author deals with one of the greatest battles won by Alexander the Great during his Asian campain, the Battle of the Hydaspes River (326 B.C.) In a comprehensive study of Alexander ’s motivations and strategic choices, the author evaluates the tactical movements of both the Macedonians and the Indians and points to the fatal errors that led the latter to their defeat.
