The eastern world in the greek iconography of the late classical era

Themes and motifs inspired from the Eastern world appear in the Greek iconography of the late classical era. They represent either the reality of everyday life in the East, as well as the world of myths. The examination of these representations reveals interesting observations on the relations of Greece with the East during that crucial period extending from the Peloponnesian War to the expedition of Alexander the Great. The existence of multiple exchanges and interaction between the two worlds is noted on a cultural level, contrary to the level of ideology where opposition and rivalry prevail.
