Abstract:
Vassilis Ziogas’ dramatic literature, after the 7year period of the dictatorship, does not depart suddenly and essentially from his preceding production. However, we can detect a progress in his work, concerning chiefly the expansion of his aesthetics and thought and to a lesser degree his subjects, which from the beginning, in his early plays, flirts with elementary realities and contradictions or conjugations beyond history, such as the mutual permeation of life and death, the union or discord of man and woman, individual and universe, flesh and spirit, the mystery of creation, the innermost essense of beings and the cosmic order. Ziogas, in many instances elaborates on those subjects with the tools handed over to him by the universal culture, especially the European: ancient Greek mythology and drama, Jewish-Christian mythology, popular traditions, modern theatre, philosophy and mysticism.
