Abstract:
Near the ancient city of West Thessaly Pelinnaion or Pelinna, about 18 kilometres East of Trikala, were found by chance two Cist tombs of the Hellenistic period. One pair of wonderful earrings (fig. 1 ) in chariot form with a cupid as charioteer and a base; one necklace (fig. 2 ) composed of a chain with many pendent jewels; one bracelet (fig. 3 - 4 ), in the form of serpents ; and one ring (fig. 4 ), as well as many leaves from broken wreaths, all of gold, were the most important finds. The tombs are to be dated to the middle of the second century B.C. or a little after, the gold jewelry to the years around 200 B.C. until probably the middle of the second century B.C.
