Abstract:
In drama the communication between the characters of a play is seriously affected by the distorted aspects of dramatic dialogue such as non-coherent speech, minimal speech, avoidance of dialogue-contact, silent attitudes. In modem theatre disruptions in the sequence of dialogue may occasionally lead to the extinction of the word which gives the idea of wordless drama. In the highly conventional theatre of antiquity similar peculiarities in the shaping of dramatic dialogue are intertwined in the alternation of speech between the three actors in their dialogical encounters, while the non-speaking performers contribute in many ways in the interaction between the characters of a play. Sophoclean prologues provide an example of how the main structural features and peculiarities of dramatic dialogue are combined to produce the dialogical encounters in Greek Drama.
