I. MuseumsA new local Museum has been established at Episkopi village, near the ancient city of Kourion, to house antiquities from that area, ranging chronologically from prehistoric to Early Christian times (figs. 1-2).In a specially arranged room in the Kyrenia Castle a temporary exhibition has been arranged of finds from the recently excavated ship - wreck of the 4th century B.C.II. ExcavationsSubstantial Neolithic remains ( 5000- 3000 B.C. ) have been excavated at Aghios Epiktetos on the N. coast, by a British Mission from Birmingham University (fig. 3).A Neolithic chamber tomb was discovered at the Neolithic site of Philia by a second British Mission from Edinburgh.The large fragment of a tablet inscribed in the Cypro-Minoan syllabary was discovered by the French Expedition at Enkomi in a 13th century B.C. layer.The German Expedition at Palaipa- phos completed the excavation of the Persian mound of 498 B.C.The Department of Antiquities of Cyprus continued its excavations at Kition, in the Phoenician temple of Astarte ( f i g. 4 ), in the Roman theatre of Kato Paphos, the Roman buildings of Kourion (fig. 5), and the Gothic church at Kato Paphos.
