Abstract:
The present paper is based exclusively on observations made during the excavation in 2002 of two new sites in northern Corfu. It does not approach the field of interpretation of the data, but merely attempts a first “reading” in the context of the broader archaeological context. The further objective is to locate these new sites, in order to steer future excavation in the region in the direction of a substantial study of the remains of human activity, with emphasis on the settlement organisation pattern. The two sites, one at Saouli in the settlement of Acharavi and the other on the main road between Roda and Acharavi, are connected with the agricultural economy of the region and reveal evidence for the agricultural organisation of the countryside of northern Corfu in the Hellenistic period.
