Abstract:
Part of a cemetery was excavated on a private plot of land at Anthousa, Attica, probably in the region of the ancient deme of Pailene, with 21 graves of various types (1 cist grave, 4 tile-covered graves, 1 pit grave, 8 pyres and 6 jar burials). The burials, though few in number, cover the period from the third quarter of the 6th to the early 4th c. BC. While there areburials of adults, the majority are infant and child burials. Without exception, all the grave offerings were clay vases, most of them from Attic workshops. In two jar burials of the 6th c. BC, we may note a pyxis in the Late Corinthian II style and a skyphos, possibly from a Boeotian workshop.
