The LN pottery from the “Boliatso” cave in Leukas comes from disturbed levels and it was found mixed with material of a later period. Its presentation is based mainly on its typological features. It includes coarse ware, made of clay with inclusions, with no or only light burnish on the surface. The badly preserved material made the identification of shapes rather difficult. They belong mainly to open shallow and deep broad-mouthed vases, implying that the pottery from the cave served domestic uses. Painted Neolithic pottery is totally absent.One pottery group is quite different from the rest of material. It consists of fine thin- walled pottery with incised patterns on thesurface of the vessels. The group presents similarities with groups from Katundas, Du- navec, Kolsh and Cakran in Albania. These common pottery trends - which have been noticed in other caves too - indicate contacts between the Ionian islands and Albania, very much expected within this area.The “Boliatso” cave is occupied when the Neolithic population and the production of coarse wares increases. It may be considered as a place where groups lived temporarily in close relationship with communities settled in the neighboring area. Further investigation will probably add information to our knowledge of its use within a local and broader network.
