The article deals with a part of a bronze trefoil oinochoe of the end of the 6th cent. B. C. ( N. M. inv. no. 7948 ). Only the neck and the handle are preserved from this interesting vase, which was found in Olympia in 1894 and remained so far unpublished.Two main points of interest may be noted :( A ) The handle bears an engraved dedicatory inscription of the Eleans to the Olympian Zeus. An identical inscription was engraved on the rim of a contemporary bronze lebes from Olympia, already published by Kunze. This fact may lead to the conslusion that the two vases formed a set deposited simultaneously in the Sanctuary.( B ) The handle belongs to the type bearing on the upper part a lion’s head between two terminals with heads of apes. This type is well spread in Greece and Etruria, but its origins are undictated. Now, considering the fact that quite a number of similar examples have been found in the Peloponnese, and as it is most likely that a public dedication of the Eleans would be a product of a local workshop and not an import, the original manufacture of this type of oinochoe may be attributed to a Western Peloponnesian workshop.
