Report and assessment of the anthropological material from the excavations of the Ephoria of Paleoanthropology and Speleology

The anthropological remains from four caves excavated by the Ephoria of Paleoanthropology and Speleology are being studied to discover the morphological structure of the population, the biological relationships, the state of their health, probable epidemiological outbreaks and also their probable burial practices and latent ideological forms.Analyses of the anthropological material in the Neolithic cave of Tharrounia in Eu- boia, the MH/LH population of Kastria at Kalavryta, the Paleolithic and Mesolithicpopulation of Theopetra at Kalambaka and lastly the Early Helladic ossuary in the cave of Loutraki at Perachora have shown models of micro development, marginal morphotypes, outbreaks of anemic ailments, pathological disorders connected with periods of malnutrition, incidents of child mortality and on occasion strong endogamie relationships in closed societies.The whole study will be completed bio- metrically, microscopically and biochemically, and will of course be subject to the processes of archaeological interpretation.
