The Canopic vase no. 572/204 in the Argo- stoli Archaeological Museum was one of the grave offerings of Nefer-uben, the vizier of the pharaoh Thutmosis III ( ~ 1478 ~ 1426 BC) of the 18th dynasty. Despite his high social status in Egypt, this figure is relatively unknown, a circumstance that lends even greater academic value to the vase underexamination. It is the third known vase dedicated by the same individual. The other two have been identified in a private collection that belonged to Lord Nugent between the years 1832 and 1835. This article examines the original and distinctive features of this Canopic vase and describes the role played by it in ancient Egyptian burial practice.
