Abstract:
Ancient Tragilos The investigation at the Bisaltian city, Tragilos, concentrated on the excavation of building Γ of the sub-sector V. Unfortunately the time was not sufficient. Theeastern half of a big rectangular building (26.15 x 17.20 m.) came to light. Four rectangular rooms constitute the eastern side: rooms a and β communicate with each other, while rooms γ and δ are accessible from the courtyard. The differences of the wall structure suggest repairs and annexes. A rectangular Π-shaped construction lies against the southern wall; the excavation did not proceed to the floor. The finds were not many: sherds of plain pottery, fragments of terracotta’s, metal small objects. The31 bronze coins date the building from the second half of the 4th to the beginning of the 3rd century B.C. However, the interpretation of the building is not possible before the excavation is completed. Meanwhile, its plan recalls a house, such as those from Tragilos and other ancient cities. Ancient Phagres The excavation at ancient Phagres in the area of Orphanio in the prefecture of Kavala yielded a big wall of a building 16.40 m. long. It is the first building of the city that comes to light. However, its excavation will be completed in the future. We continued also the investigation of trench 1. Four more «pits» which were originally for storage or they were related to workshops, since they communicate through canals, were discovered. The filling of the pits contains remains from the destruction of the city in the early 5th century B.C. Significant big and small pots appeared after the sherds were glued together: amphorae, hydriae, kraters and mainly Attic black-figured oinochoai, bowls, cups, small skyphoi etc. The quality is excellent and the pots were made in workshops of Attica, Thasos and maybe also local. However, there are still many problems which have not been solved.
