Abstract:
An ancient cemetery used from the Iron Age to the Archaic period was located at the beach called «Hagios Yiannis» of Nikete in western Sithonia. The remains of a classical building, a house or a workshop, were discovered in the eastern part of the beach, above the graves.45 Iron Age graves organized in two subsequent layers were excavated. 40 of them were inhumations placed into pithoi, while the rest were cremations; children burials were the commonest. A group of inhumations inside pithoi are quite interesting, because they were found inside perimeter walls. The grave-offerings comprised pots and jewellery; handmade jugs —feeding pots—were found in four graves of children. Bronze spectacle-shaped fibulae and bracelets, common in Macedonia, were also found here.
