Abstract:
Excavations on the double table at Anchialos continued in 1994, but were confined to the area of the lower table where an important building of the Geometric period was located last year. Five trenches were explored, yielding sections of brick walls, floors, and domestic facilities (such as grills for cooking). These architectural remains have been dated to the Geometric period because of the large quantities of imported Attic and, particularly, Euboian Geometric pottery that have been collected from the destruction layer. The striking presence of the Euboian wares lends support to the theory that a Euboian emporion was established in this area in the Geometric period.
