Parallel Title:
Excavation of the Τable at Archontiko, Yannitsa, in 1994
Abstract:
Arhondiko, Yannitsa (Figs. 1, IV), uncovered new habitation deposits in1994 (Fig. 2; PI. 1), which are connected with the building phases located in1993, namely the latest, from the Late Classical - Early Hellenistic period and the earliest, from the end of the Iron Age. The later period is represented by a few sections of walls and, particularly, by a number of small objects (Pi. 5). The finds from the earlier phase are more significant, taking the form of parallel walls running N-S. They have entrance openings (PI. 2), which start to form parts of rooms, though not ground plans of buildings yet. Connected with the walls are clay-surfaced floors, small storage structures (PI. 3), and under groundmiddens (PL 4). A built structure was also uncovered (PI. 10) that was similar in shape to a pottery kiln, though it offered no data to confirm this specific use. It may have been used for storage. The finds shown in PI. 7, 8, 9, and 11 are connected with the building remains of the earlier phase.
