Vergina 1988 : excavation in the cemetery

The excavation of the big Macedonian tomb by the tomb of Romaios was continued this year, while the northern fortification wall of the city was discovered south from the tombs. However, the most impressive find of the excavation of 1988 was the discovery of a big pit-grave containing the inhumation of a woman with rich gold jewellery, metal vases and ceramics. The grave dates to the end of the 6th century B.C. and the grave offerings recall those of the cemetery of Sindos.
