The new exhibition entitled Field, house, garden, grave is another permanent exhibition of the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, hosted in a large section of its courtyard area. Essentially, it represents the continuation of the permanent exhibition on the city of Thessaloniki completed in 2006. The exhibition is comprised of antiquities of the roman period whose size and number did not allow them to be included in the corresponding exhibition within the Museum and is divided into three parts: a) an imaginary part of the ancient cemetery of Thessaloniki, where marble sarcophagi and monolithic altars are on display and b) part of an imaginary urban house with all its discrete spaces where parts of mosaic floors from excavations at various sites in the city have been set and c) a third, smaller assemblage with honorary altars was inserted separate from the other monuments, since these altars were originally situated in the ancient city’s public spaces. The implementation of the new exhibition program was carried out in 2007-2009 and included in the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s “Culture” Program, funded by the Third Community Support Framework.
